History

Banking Excellence since 1895

The origins of Thumb Bank & Trust date back to 1895 in Pigeon, Michigan. The Farmer’s Bank of Frank W. Hubbard was founded by four partners in 1895. On August 21, 1906, a second bank was chartered on the corner of Main Street and Michigan Avenue in Pigeon and was called the Pigeon State Bank. Local customers now had two banking choices and each bank tried its best to attract more customers. Two years later, Pigeon State Bank was bought by the Farmer’s Bank and the resulting name was Pigeon State Bank.

1970 - Pigeon State Bank became Thumb National Bank & Trust Co. It was the first and only bank in the entire region to assume full trust powers at the time.

1978 - Cass City office opened.

1989 - Caseville office opened.

2003 - Bay City, Wilder Road office opened.

2007 - Bay City, Center Avenue office opened.

2016 - Bad Axe office opened.

2017 - Thumb National Bank & Trust Co. becomes Thumb Bank & Trust.

2022 - Marlette office opened. This office expanded the bank's footprint to four counties, Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, and Bay.

2022 - The bank announced a merger with Exchange State Bank. The merger closed on December 31, 2022, and resulted in Thumb Bank expanding to include six new branch locations in Sanilac County and would now total 13 branches. The new branch locations were Applegate, Brown City, Carsonville, Deckerville, Port Sanilac and Sandusky.

Today, Thumb Bank & Trust remains a local community bank that offers full trust and financial services. In recent years the bank has posted record earnings and receives outstanding support from its shareholders. The bank employs over 120 full- and part-time employees and remains very active in the communities it serves. Bank assets now total over $570 million.
